Create data fields

Select 'Data Collection' from the 'Integration' main navigation menu, then click on the magnifying glass next to the category name for the data field.

  1. To add a data field, click the green '+ data field' button.
  2. To edit a data field, click on the pencil to the left the data field name.
  3. Then proceed with adding/editing the following information:
    1. Category
    2. A unique title—this is the data field name that will be seen only by you; the data field label seen by respondents is entered when you create a form.
    3. Description (optional)
    4. Data name—for storing in the database; usually a shorter name with no spaces or special characters, such as 'fname' (for 'first name') or 'promo_code' (for 'promotion code').
    5. Maximum length—allows you to specify the maximum characters allowed for the field. This is useful to ensure a respondent does not enter more information than is capable of being received in your lead management tool when the data is exported.
    6. Validation pattern (optional)—helps to increase the quality of data by validating the information provided (see details in Validation Patterns section below).
    7. Default value (optional)—allows you to pre-fill a field with default information (e.g., include 'http://' in a field requesting a company website URL).
  4. Continue adding data fields until all fields you'd like to include on the form have been created in LiveBall.

Create choice sets

Select 'Data Collection' from the 'Integration' main navigation menu, then click on the magnifying glass next to the category name for the choice set.

  1. To add a choice set, click the green '+ choice set' button. You'll need to enter a unique label and optional description. Before you click Save, you also have the option to copy an existing choice set — this is helpful when the choice set you want to add is very similar to an existing choice set. For example, to create a modified list of states (perhaps limited to the states where your product/service is available), select the Geolocation category and choose the US States choice set to copy...then simply delete the states from the list that don't apply.
  2. To edit a choice set, click on the magnifying glass to the left the choice set name. Then click on the pencil next to the choice name to edit, or the trash can on the right to delete.
  3. To add a choice to a choice set, click the green '+ choice' button. Then enter the choice name you'd like to show respondents, as well as the choice value you'd like to associate with this choice and store in the database (if applicable). TIP—When adding a list of choices to appear in a drop-down menu, add '(Select one)' or '(Choose one)' as the first choice in the list (no choice value needed)—this will appear as the default in the menu.
  4. You can re-order choices in a list easily by clicking on the choice and dragging it to the desired position.

Add validation patterns

LiveBall comes pre-installed with the most common validation patterns for things like email address, date, phone, etc. If you are going to validate data and the validation pattern is not already set up, go to 'Data Collection' in the 'Integration' main navigation menu to get started.

  1. Click the green '+ validation' button in the validation patterns section at the bottom of the page.
  2. Add a unique validation pattern title and the regular expression code.
  3. Include an optional description for the validation pattern — this is helpful if there are notes or specifications for when this validation pattern should be used.
  4. Click Save!

Got all that? Great! Now you are ready to create your form(s)!
