Using “regular expressions” you can define how a field should be validated. If you don’t know what this means, don’t worry! LiveBall comes with common validation patterns pre-configured. Regular expression allows you to validate the data being entered by your respondents. For example, you can use regular expression on an email address field to help make sure the email address entered actually conforms to standard email address formats.
You can also add/edit validation patterns at any time (see data collection steps for instructions)—you can find lots of regular expressions via searches on the Web. Then you would add your data field and select the applicable validation pattern from the drop-down. The result is that when you include this data field on a form, the respondent will be required to complete the requested information in the format you defined.
For example, if you have a field that is asking for the date, you can use a validation pattern to ensure that the answer the respondent gives is in the date format of your choice (such as, mm/dd/yyyy). First, you would add your validation pattern, using regular expression (which you can find via searches on the web). Then you would add your data field and select the validation pattern from a drop down. The result is that when you include this question on a form, the respondent will be required to complete the question in the format you defined.
